Clear sapphire Radiance braces

Radiance™ braces are another innovative ceramic brace treatment that we are proud to offer at Melton Orthodontics. Radiance™ offers a clear solution for a discreet orthodontic treatment. The braces are made from crystals of pure grown sapphire – one of the hardest materials in nature. Similar to a diamond, these sapphire brackets are clear and when combined with the clever design, these braces achieve powerful results.

What does the treatment involve?

At your initial consultation, we assess your teeth and make sure that ceramic braces are a good fit for your needs. We ask you about your ideal straight smile and give you the chance to ask us any questions about the treatment.

We use advanced digital scans and images of your teeth to create your customised treatment plan.

During treatment, your braces remain attached to your teeth, with gentle forces gradually moving them into straighter positions. We see you in the practice for regular appointments to make sure everything is on track, making small adjustments to ensure incredible results.

At the end of your treatment, we remove your ceramic braces and reveal your new smile! We check you are delighted with your results and give you retainers to help you keep your teeth straight.

Frequently asked questions

How do I care for my ceramic braces?

The best way to care for your ceramic braces is to keep up with a good oral hygiene routine at home. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, using interdental brushes to clean the spaces between your brackets and wire. It’s also important to continue your regular check ups with your general dentist.

Do I need to avoid certain foods?

Yes, it’s advisable to avoid hard, sticky, or particularly chewy foods that could potentially damage your brackets or wires. During your consultation, your orthodontist will provide personalised dietary recommendations to ensure the best outcome for your treatment.

We are aware that some inferior ceramic bracket brands are made of materials that stain easily, which is why we have used Radiance as our ceramic bracket of choice for over 20 years as is has a proven track record for being stain resistant.

However some of the elastic ties and other components will discolour, particularly with foods with turmeric, paprika and other strong pigments. Whilst we can often select more stain resistant components to reduce this inconvenience.

How long does treatment with ceramic braces take?

The duration of your treatment will depend on the complexity of your individual case. Typically, treatment with ceramic braces takes around 6 – 24 months, a similar time to traditional metal braces.

Are ceramic braces comfortable?

While some initial discomfort is common as your mouth adjusts, modern ceramic braces are designed with patient comfort in mind. They are smaller, smoother, and custom-made to fit your teeth, aiming to minimise irritation and provide a more comfortable experience throughout your treatment.

Do ceramic braces stain?

Ceramic brackets are highly stain resistant, but the elastic ties that are used to hold the wire in place can sometimes become stained. To keep your braces stain-free, make sure you maintain excellent oral hygiene and try to avoid food and drink that could affect their colour. If your elastics do become stained, we can easily replace these at your next appointment.

What happens after my braces are removed?

Once your treatment is complete and your braces are carefully removed, you will need to wear a retainer. This is a crucial step, as it helps to maintain your newly straightened smile for the long-term. We are happy to discuss the most suitable retainer options for you.
