Composite Bonding

The fast way to improve the appearance of your smile

If you’re looking for a quick smile makeover, or an effective way to repair small chips or minor damage to your teeth, composite bonding is the ideal treatment. In just a single short appointment, this transformative treatment can change the shape, colour, and size of your teeth, and help you achieve the smile you deserve. The composite can be built directly on your tooth, making it a comfortable and non-invasive cosmetic procedure.

What are the benefits of composite bonding?

  • No drilling or removal of tooth enamel needed.
  • The treatment is efficient and fast.
  • No need for impressions or restorations created off-site.
  • Everything happens in our practice, under one friendly roof.
  • We can match the composite to your tooth colour.
  • It’s a very aesthetic treatment, able to transform your smile.

What is involved in the treatment?

At your initial consultation, we ensure you are in good oral health and suitable for treatment. We ask you about your ideal results and give you the chance to ask us any questions. We also make a note of the shade of your natural teeth, or your ideal new shade, so the composite can be colour-matched.

Your composite bonding treatment happens in one short appointment. We first dry the tooth and prepare the surface with a special gel. This creates a rough surface for the composite to properly bond to.

We apply the composite material in layers, gradually building up the accurate shape of your tooth. Using a blue light, we harden the composite, which sets immediately. We then polish the composite so it looks shiny, healthy, and just like a natural tooth.

Frequently asked questions

Can composite bonding be used on more than one tooth?

Yes, composite bonding can be used to repair a single tooth or used on multiple teeth to transform the appearance of your smile. At your first appointment, we discuss with you what your goals are from your composite bonding treatment.

Is composite bonding treatment painful?

Composite bonding is completely pain-free, which is part of the reason why it is so popular with many patients looking for an effective cosmetic repair. None of your natural tooth structure or enamel needs to be removed to make way for the treatment so you will feel no pain or discomfort.

Can composite bonding be reversed?

Yes, composite bonding is completely reversible. If you change your mind over time and no longer want the composite bonding material on your tooth, it can simply be removed. There are no lasting effects on your natural teeth, and they will return to the way they were before treatment.

How do I look after my tooth following composite bonding treatment?

Composite is invulnerable to bacteria and decay, but the natural tooth underneath isn’t. Great oral hygiene at home will keep your tooth lasting for as long as possible. You may require maintenance on these restorations, particularly if you like to drink tea or coffee or enjoy other food and drinks that stain your teeth. This can easily be monitored at your regular check-ups.

What is composite?

Composite is a special dental resin made from a combination of plastic and glass. It can perfectly mimic tooth enamel, and we can match it to your tooth colour so it blends seamlessly into your smile.
