What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a highly effective cosmetic dental treatment, able to completely change the look and feel of one or more teeth in just a single short appointment. Whether you’ve got a discoloured tooth you’ve always wanted to change, your teeth look unbalanced, or you simply want a cracked or chipped tooth repair, composite bonding is the ideal solution.

The composite material is colour-matched to your natural teeth to create a perfect blend, or can be used in a lighter shade to brighten your smile. It is applied directly onto your tooth, so no anaesthetic or drilling is required.

What does composite bonding treatment involve?

Step 1

We discuss your case, including your ideal results and how composite bonding can help you achieve them.

Step 2

We use an acidic gel to create a rough surface on your tooth, so the composite can bond effectively.

Step 3

We build up the composite material directly on your tooth in layers, gradually creating the correct size and shape.

Step 4

Using a UV light, we set the composite in place. It hardens instantly and you can eat and talk as normal straight away.

Frequently asked questions

How much does composite bonding cost in Devizes?

The cost of composite bonding varies depending on the number of teeth being treated and your individual case. At our practice in Devizes, composite bonding starts from £250.00 per tooth. We always discuss costs with you and give a fully bespoke quote before you begin treatment.

How long does composite bonding last?

Composite bonding typically lasts for around 5-7 years if looked after correctly. As the composite material is applied directly to your tooth, it can be very easily refreshed, repaired or replaced in just a short visit to our practice.

What is the difference between composite bonding and veneers?

Composite bonding involves adding tooth-coloured resin directly to the surface of the natural tooth in layers, gradually building up the desired shape. As such, no removal of your tooth enamel or structure is required. On the other hand, veneers are custom porcelain shells, made in a dental laboratory and fitted to the front surface of your teeth. They typically require a layer of natural tooth enamel to be removed.

Does composite bonding damage your natural teeth?

No, composite bonding won’t damage your natural teeth in any way. It is completely safe and minimally invasive, with no need for drilling or to permanently alter your tooth structure. The composite bonding process is actually completely reversible, leaving your teeth exactly as they were before treatment.

Is composite bonding suitable for me?

Composite bonding is widely suitable for most patients looking for a safe, fast and effective way to enhance the appearance of their smile. At your initial consultation, we assess your case and make sure composite bonding is suitable for your needs and ideal results.
