Crowns provide a beautifully aesthetic and seamless way to cover weakened teeth and protect them from further damage. They fit snugly over a whole tooth, neatly hiding any imperfections such as chips, decay, staining or old, large fillings. Crowns can also be used to support a dental bridge or fixed to a dental implant for a highly aesthetic finish.

We begin your treatment by examining your teeth, making sure the internal structure of the affected tooth is intact and there are no signs of infection present. We explain the treatment process to you and are happy to answer your questions.
We remove a thin layer of tooth structure to accommodate your crown, leaving a strong core in place. We take digital impressions so your custom crown can be made to your exact specifications, and fit you with a temporary crown to protect your prepared tooth.
When your crown is ready, we check it looks and feels exactly right before fixing it permanently in place using strong dental cement.
The best and easiest way to look after your dental crown is to treat it just like a natural tooth. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss daily to keep your oral health in great condition, and visit your dentist regularly so they can keep an eye on your crown and the tooth underneath.
While they don’t last forever, dental crowns are a long-term restorative solution. They can last around 10-15 years before normal wear and tear will cause the need for a replacement. However, the preparation process is irreversible as some tooth enamel is removed, so your tooth will always require a crown.
Because your bespoke permanent crown is custom-made in a dental laboratory, it usually takes a couple of weeks to create. While you wait, we will fit you with a temporary crown. This protects your prepared tooth from sensitivity and keeps your smile looking normal until your permanent one is ready to be securely bonded in place.
You are able to choose the colour of your crown, based on your personal preferences. We may advise you of the shade which would best match your natural tooth colour, but it is ultimately up to you. If you are considering having whitening treatment, you may prefer to have this treatment first, as whitening is not effective on crowns and your crown can then be made to match your new shade.
Not at all. Your comfort is our absolute priority, so we use a local anaesthetic to completely numb the area before we begin preparing or fitting your crown. We will always take our time to make sure you are feeling totally relaxed and ready before we start. Most of our patients tell us that getting a crown feels no different than having a standard filling. You might notice a little mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards, but this settles down very quickly.
